This french fry advertisement brought to you by Mcdonald's is a perfect example of a simple ad that sends a powerful message about its product. Mcdonald's iconic red and yellow colors scheme seems to dominate the advertisement. The concept behind this ad is the simple life stage of Mcdonald's fries. Underneath the text “before” is an image of a potato. A person's eye is instantly drawn to the image because of its bold brown color on top of a red background. Below the word “after” is an image of Mcdonald's large size fries container, fully loaded with fries. Lastly, right bellow the text "right after” is the same image of the Mcdonalds fries container, with only one french fry left. With very few words, the viewer can instantly get the message that Mcdonald's fries are so good, once they are made they are gone. Along with the dominant color scheme, the Mcdonald's logo is placed in multiple areas on the advertisement. On the left side of the ad are the classic two arches with the “I’m lovin it” text right below. The Mcdonald's logo is also displayed on the two fry containers as well.
Though this advertisement is quite simple, the use of semiotics makes it such a successful ad. The chronological order of how the french fries are created and the ending result really showcases how wonderful Mcdonald's fries are. As for the audience, the advertisement is not subjecting to one type of person, as french fries are for everyone. Overall, the simplicity of the advertisement helps go to get the point across really well.
