How should one define gender? Is gender natural, or is it socially constructed, and if it is social constructed, does that mean gender us anything some wants it to be?

Blog Post 6-Miss Representation
Agree:
I think it is a great video to sending us the message of how media change people. The few fact said on the video like, teenage build up their value through media, like youth, beauty, sexuality, and violence. more and more people unsatisfied with their body and eating disorder. The media use photoshop and other unreal image to attract audiences. This video also break down the stereotypes, especially focus on female stereotypes in media. The media affect teenage girl's self-esteem.
Disagree:
Media change people on both positive and negative way. "Miss Representation" also is part of media. Recently we can see many video tells people to be confident by self. Like alway company release their advertisement "like a girl" and Colbie Caillat "Try".
Everyone has own value of beauty, it shaped by their real life but media.
I would say, Media is a mirror of our society. It is a place to show different value and brief. Also, people may not realize the speaker on media. Those lady are look gorgeous and clear, because most people will put their best image on television.

Psychoanalytic criticism is a form of applied psychoanalysis, a science concerned with the interaction between conscious and unconscious process and the with laws of mental functioning. This means we not in complete control of ourselves all the time, we are affected by events and circumstances in ways we cannot fathom, and we do things for reasons we do not understand or will not admit to ourselves.
like our daily routine, we drive home everyday in the same round, then we will automatically remember the round and become unconscious behavior.
Freud's structural hypothesis about the mental functioning of personality divided into three parts: ID, ego, and superego. The ID is the basic need of personality and wants instant gratification for our wants and needs. if the needs or wants not met, a person become tense or anxious. The ego is opposite of ID, it is more focus on mortality and justice. like Bikini (ID) and Scientist's white coat (ego). The ego deal with reality, trying to meet the desires of the id in a way that is socially acceptable in the world. The superego comprises the moral precepts of our minds as well as our idea aspirations and based on morals and judgments about the right and wrong.

Before this class, I think Marxism as a conflict between labor and Wealth based on condition of people relate to political issue developed by Karl Marx. His ideal with social and economic power relationships and have been influential in economics, politics and sociology. If we talk about Marxism in media, the concept would be almost based on same idea of Marx's. The storytelling in media is reflection of our ture society. “Art are come from life and higher than life”. If Marxism can analysis the real society, it would be applied in media either. Conflict is always the most attractive part in a story.
The first step in understanding the media in a dialectical manner is to understand the content itself. Marxism is really useful if it is used to analyse media text. Marxism in media is really often, like movie Roman Holiday, Ann,the crown princess fall in love with a poor American reporter. We can using Marxism to analysis the social conflict between princess and repertor and the exception of this society.Ann should be marry with a royal family instead of a poor American reporter.when they meet again while back in their respective roles and Princess Ann learns that Joe is a reporter – he conveys that her secrets are safe with him and then Irving gives the princess the pictures he’d surreptitiously taken as mementos of her holiday. And Television series Gossip Girl:"Whoever said that money doesn't buy happiness didn't know where to shop." Leighton Meester said this as Blair Waldorf. According to "TVLoop," it is the most memorable line from "Gossip Girl"—and one of the many reasons fans love the Blair character.

Blog Post #2 -Sherlock Holmes
The reason I think why Sherlock pick Watson to be his roommate is follow:
First, Watson is an doctor, he serve in army. Sherlock need a partner someone can help him. Watson has many medical expertise. Also he must be brave, ability to work in group, (which Sherlock doesn’t have) mature and resourceful. Watson is able to go to crime scene with Sherlock, identify the body. He can shot, and protect SH(Sherlock) .
When they first time meet each other, SH try to understand him by observing his clothing, hands and other detail by his way. He is curious about him, and he want to know more things about Watson. When he want to borrow a phone. Even thought he is asking two people for a phone, actually he only asking Watson’s phone.
Second: Watson like to expressing feeling directly, sometime he doesn’t (for example when he talk to the doctor about his post-traumatic stress.) But when he talk with SH, he can expressing himself directly, because Watson knows that he has nothing can hide in front of SH. Anger is anger, happy is happy.
Third: Watson is a clear, also he is easy men, when Watson go to SH apartment, he can tolerate dirty and disgusting human body. (when the police came to SH, most of them can’t tolerate those thing) Watson also can help SH clean the apartment.
Four: Watson has moral sense and compassion. He is complain SH when he is excited about crime happened. Also he change SH, SH start think about himself and sometime he start asking Watson’s opinion “No good” (Season 1, but I can’t remember exactingly time)
